Russian Mutiny?

The Wagner group, which has been vital in keeping Russia involved in its illegal war in Ukraine, has now seemed to have had enough of Russian President Vladimir Putin. Yevgeny Prigozhin, the leader of the Wagner Group, has called upon his soldiers to rebel against the Russian Army.

Currently, the Wagner Group has taken control of Rostov-on-Don, a city on the shore of the Black Sea. Recent reports indicate that in the city of Voronezh, which is halfway between Rostov-on-Don and Moscow, we have also seen Mercenaries from the Wagner Group on its streets. Vladimir Putin has called this a “betrayal” and “treason” and has made sure his military increases Moscow’s defences in case the group decides to head further north.

At this current time, there is no way of saying how this will affect Putin’s reign and the war in Ukraine, but it is certain that the Ukrainian military could use this “distraction” to try and liberate some of their land from Russian occupation.

So why has this happened? The leader of the Wagner Group says that he is fed up with the Russian Soldiers being sent into a “meat grinder” without ammunition and resources. Furthermore, he said that the Russian military was using his men as cannon fodder in Ukraine. It is important to know that Yevgeny Prigozhin is not against the war in Ukraine; far from it, in fact, he is a well-known Pro-war figure.

Worry has mounted about what might happen if the Kremlin and, most importantly, Putin are cornered.
